How Mettech Handles Variations in Trailer Production with ArcNC
Industry: Trailer Manufacturing
Key Benefits:
- Handles high-mix, low-volume production
- Minimal training required
- Automated, collision-free robot path generation
Story:
Mettech is a sheet metal fabrication company based in Ireland. Since its acquisition by Dennison Trailers in 2016, Mettech has focused on delivering precision-built components for commercial trailers.
While some production runs are high-volume, much of their output involves complex part variations—like trailer headboards that differ by as little as 100 mm in height or width. This variability makes long production runs difficult.
After seeing a demo of ArcNC by Valk Welding, the team was impressed and they decided to adopt the software. The benefits were clear: faster robot programming, automated motion planning, easier welding path definition would lead to a more efficient production.
Despite no formal training, Mick and Kestas were productive in about an hour—thanks to intuitive design and helpful resources available on the ArcNC website.
“We learned the essentials in one hour. Everything else was self-explanatory.”
— Mick, laser cutting and robot programming expert
Using years of welding experience, Kestas configures preferred weld positions, manipulator angles, and weld direction locks—helping ArcNC deliver smarter, optimized paths with minimal input.
“The software itself is really good. Our favorite feature? Press save and walk away—it calculates all the robot movements for you.”
— Kestas, Shopfloor manager
